This fall, the Skyline Theater department will be opening the doors to a portal to the world of 1988, following the historical Pan Am Flight 103 crash, in their annual fall play. Every year, we’re enraptured by their productions, but what makes The Women of Lockerbie so different is its darker tone and unique setting.
“I think it’s really different than what we’ve done in the past… in no way is it a comedy, it’s a tragedy for sure. I think it’s something we needed to do,” said Natalie Glasgow, a Skyline senior and stage manager. “It’s a challenge to portray a true, historic, and emotional past event, but it’s important to talk about it.”
The Pan Am Flight 103 crash was a terrorist attack in 1988 over Lockerbie, Scotland, costing 270 lives. The historical fictional play introduces the Livingston’s, a couple that lost their son to the attack, reconciling their grief. Soon, the women of Lockerbie decide to rally together as we follow their attempt to challenge the American government and return the victim’s clothing back to his family.
Lily Dorsche, another senior and run crew head, claimed that the production will take its audience on an emotional ride;
“It’ll make you laugh, it’ll make you cry, cry some more, and then make you want to live in Scotland,” Dorsche said. “Your entire outlook on life will change.”
While certainly not a light play, it isn’t one you’d want to miss. In the Lyceum Theater on our once-bare stage, our theater department will bring to life an event that should never be forgotten.
Dorsche also mentioned the outstanding performances we can expect from the leading actors, particularly Skyline senior Chiara Barbato, playing Mrs. Livingston. “I got chills. I felt what she felt, and that’s what made the play worth it for me,” said Dorsche, referring to the crew preview where she got to view the show a week early.
The Women of Lockerbie will be on Nov. 7th-9th at 7:00 pm, with a matinee show on the 11th at 2:00 pm, and closing at 7:00 the same day.
We’ll see you soon, Lockerbie.
