Fans have been anticipating the Iconic New Orleans duo, $uicideBoy$ 2023 Grey Day Music Festival since their last Seattle performance in 2019. Grey Day 2023 tour was announced in May of 2022 with the inclusion of many other accompanying bands such as Ghostemane, City Morgue, Freddie Dredd, Sematary, and Ramirez.
Their October 16th , 2023 performance was at Climate Pledge Arena, built specifically for events and concerts, and perfectly highlighted their music and rave-like aesthetics.
$uicideBoy$ fans were clearly dressed for the alternative, underground Rap, wearing baggy jeans, retro sneakers, beanie’s and lots of chains/ accessories. Fans also crowded Climate Pledge Arena, hours before the show even began scanning tickets and lines spanned blocks throughout Seattle, with people sitting on the ground. Many fights broke out outside the arena concerning people’s placement within the line, highlighting the tension and urgency of this performance.
The show consisted of many popular songs of theirs such as ‘Antartica’, ‘Paris’ and ‘Not Even Ghosts Are This Empty.’ and with every song came a unique set of laser and smoke/fog arrays which added to the depth and enjoyment of their show.
As the show proceeded, the intensity increased as a mosh pit formed on the floor section directly in front of the stage where they were performing. The crowd was thrashing back and forth and splashing their drinks into the sea of moving people, as lasers lit up the ceiling.
For some people, this was their first time seeing the $uicideBoy$ in person, “This was the first $uicideBoy$ concert I’ve been to and the mosh was the most enjoyable part. Though I’m now clearly soaked head to toe in sweat.” said a Seattle University Student. Fans who attended the show claimed they were mesmerized by the aesthetics that they provided. “I think that their performance definitely exceeded my expectations,” Lauren Kotowski, a junior at Skyline High said. “I was really surprised by the lasers and the like surround sound that they had, it made me feel almost as if I was like engulfed.”
As the show concluded, the duo thanked Seattle for being “One of their most energetic and supportive crowds” and dramatically exited the stage. As fans left the littered stadium, many were crying tears of joy, whereas other fans walked out of the arena with a sense of satisfaction and happiness, truly displaying the effects of a superior performance.
