On Oct. 18, Skyline held their annual Homecoming Tailgate event in the Spartan Stadium before the Homecoming football game. The event featured booths from a variety of clubs at Skyline, booths from each class council, and a merchandise table run by the PTSA.
Most clubs hosted a game or activity designed not only to entertain but also to introduce students to their club’s mission and purpose. Each booth brought something different to the table, literally, making the event as diverse as the clubs and students themselves.
Key Club’s booth allowed students to pie Key Club board members in the face. The DECA chapter had a miniature pool filled with plastic fish they could catch with a fishing rod, winning prizes based on what they caught. Spanish Club asked students trivia questions in Spanish and rewarded candy to those answering correctly. Badminton Club incorporated their sport into the game by asking students to knock down a stack of cups with a birdie using badminton rackets.
Students actively took part including scanning QR codes or signing-up for information about that club’s meetings. Even if students are not joining a club, seeing all the club poster boards brought awareness to the abundance of extracurricular opportunities present at Skyline.
The Spartan Forum had a booth at the event where students contributed ideas or topics they wanted to read about in the student newspaper. Staff collected these ideas and will work on writing articles our peers suggested thought out the year.
The atmosphere of the tailgate was bustling with students and faculty with school spirit. Students roamed around in Skyline gear, face paint, and white clothing head to toe, in anticipation of the Homecoming game. Music was roaring, snacks were passed around, and friends were socializing, making this year’s tailgate an unforgettable event for Skyline.
