“Formula 1 is the pinnacle of motorsport and the world’s most prestigious motor racing competition,” according to Formula1.com. Each season, 20 drivers from 10 different teams race in different countries, trying to win points to become World Champion. The sport is about speed, aerodynamics, strategy, and teamwork.
On November 1, 2024, the Brazilian Grand Prix took place in Sao Paulo. For the last three years, the Red Bull team has dominated the sport, with Max Verstappen, their number one driver. He has won the last three Driver’ titles, with Red Bull winning the last two Constructors’ (teams) titles.
This year, the fight for the Drivers’ title is very close. With only three races left in the 2024 Formula 1 season, only 62 points separate Verstappen in first, and his rival Lando Norris in second. “Max is too good at the game” says freshman Arjun Vasu.
Red Bull started this year strong winning four of the first five races of the season. However, in the middle of the year, other teams like Ferrari, McLaren, and Mercedes started to catch up. A dry streak saw Red Bull not winning a single race since June
Going into the Brazilian Grand Prix, Red Bull was a desperate third in the Constructors’ Championship, leading the Drivers’ standings by a mere 44 points. A poorly timed red flag saw Verstappen start the race in 17th place, while Norris, who drives for McLaren, started in first. The race was chaotic to say the least. With an aborted start, seven crashes, a safety car, two red flags, and just general mayhem throughout the race, Verstappen was in another league fighting his way from 17th on the grid to first. Norris had an abysmal race with a disappointing sixth place. The point deficit between the two rivals went gone from 44 points to 62 after the Brazilian Grand Prix.

After the race Norris said “It’s my first time being in this situation, and time will tell how that changes. But for now, I still respect Max, I think he respects me but maybe ask me again at the end of the year.”
Going into the Las Vegas Grand Prix weekend, Norris needs to outscore Verstappen by three points to keep his championship fight alive. If Verstappen wins in Nevada, he wins the title. Who do you want to win the title?
