With the second winter break on us, Skyline students are finalizing plans for how they’ll spend the time off. Whether traveling or staying close to home, many students and staff are finding ways to make the most of the week. For those staying in the Pacific Northwest’s cold and rainy weather, the question often arises: how do you make this break feel special?
To get a sense of our community’s plans, we asked a few Skyline Spartans how they are planning to spend their time. Some students, like junior Varsha Karthik, are making the most of the season by participating in outdoor activities. “I’m planning on going skiing with my friends,” she said, highlighting how winter sports remain a top way to spend the colder months.
Others, like Computer Science teacher Mr. Brown, plan to keep things more relaxed. “I’ll probably read a lot of books and play video games,” he shared. For many, the break offers a much-needed opportunity to chill indoors and unwind from the busy nature of school life.
This divide between active and laid-back plans is a common theme among Spartans. When polled informally, students were almost evenly split between preferring to go out or stay in during the break. Popular outdoor activities included skiing, snowboarding, and even local hikes. Meanwhile, those who choose to spend time indoors are looking forward to calm days filled with movies, books, and time with family.
If you are still unsure what to do with your winter break, there are plenty of ways to make the time meaningful and fun. Try a creative project like painting, baking, or writing. There are perfect activities for staying cozy indoors. Or join those looking forward to outdoor adventures like hitting the slopes or exploring nearby trails. Connect with friends and family for a game night, shared meals, or simply to catch up. If you are seeking a different kind of fulfillment, volunteering with local organizations is a great way to give back to the community during this season.
No matter how you choose to spend it, take the opportunity to recharge and pursue things you enjoy. Whether you’re on the ice, binge-watching your favorite shows, or exploring something new, the Skyline Spartan community proves there is no wrong way to make the most of your time off.
So, what’s your plan for this winter break?
