You can find Christmas trees in malls and in the middle of downtown, but rarely do you find one atop a high school. On the morning of January 6, 2025, the first day back from break, students coming through the front entrance of Skyline were met with this peculiar sight. There was a massive Christmas tree on the school’s roof – decorated with lights, tinsel, and even a star. Onlookers knew it was not there before the break.
But who was responsible? After talking to the Skyline custodians, it wasn’t a school-sponsored incident but instead placed there by ‘The Sammamish Silly Gooses.’ According to the custodial team, the students knew even before the admin did, so the removal occurred during the first periods of the school day. Custodian Wes Buchanan cleaned it up and he remarked on how polite these mysterious ‘troublemakers’ were. They left a laminated note cut out of magazines and a ten-dollar bill for the cleanup.
The note said, “We apologize for the inconvenience but we hope you found it humorous. Love, The Sammamish Silly Gooses”. Mr. Wes remarked saying, “In all my years at Skyline, this is the best prank I’ve seen at the school. It was harmless and there was no damage done. I feel that it was a little bit of a Christmas miracle, and it started off the year with some good. I personally believe it was Santa, but you never know.”
Whoever did this prank clearly meant no harm, and it was an interesting way to start the new year. Still, it leaves some unanswered questions. Who are The Sammamish Silly Gooses? What was their intent? Will they strike again? Only time will tell.
