Imagine the thrill of scoring a goal, the satisfaction of stopping an opponent or even the feeling of victory after winning your first game. If you take part in the spring season on the ISD Girls Lacrosse team, that doesn’t have to be just in your imagination. The ISD Lacrosse team is extremely beginner friendly. The team is a great way to be physically active, get to work with girls from around the school district, and have fun competing in a supportive environment.
Girls Lacrosse was founded in 1890, becoming popular in the U.S. in the late 1900s. It is good for people with or wanting to develop physical, technical, and strategic skills. Two girls on the ISD team both expressed that being part of the ISD Girls Lacrosse team has been a positive experience. A girl new to the team said, “I was scared at first, but girls on the team are very accepting and I didn’t feel pressure to be automatically the best.” Another lacrosse player, Ailie West, shared, “I love meeting new players. My favorite part is learning new plays and helping new players.” Ailie has been a part of the team for five years.
The popularity of girls’ sports continues to rise nationally, with sports leagues like the WNBA seeing record levels of viewership and attention. While lacrosse might not yet have the same level of familiarity, it has a growing fanbase. Now is the perfect time to get involved.
