A child music enthusiast who received a government scholarship to pursue music at the age of nine, Arijit Singh became one of the greatest playback singers of all time. Beginning his training at three, he grew up with a versatile taste in music, listening to renowned Western composers like Beethoven, Mozart, as well as legendary Indian musicians, like Kishore Kumar and the late Ust. Zakir Hussain.
Famous in the Bollywood industry for his soulful music and exceptional talent, Singh predominantly sung Hindi and Bengali film songs for the Indian cinema industry. Playback singers are artists whose performance is pre-recorded for use in films and he could sing in multiple languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Assamese, Kannada, Marathi, Gujarati, and more. He also wrote almost 30 compositions of his own, with almost 50% of them making their way to movie soundtracks.
In August 2024, Singh left the world in awe as he rose to the #1 most streamed Spotify artist, passing megastar Taylor Swift, who previously held that title. Since then, the two singers have been playing tug-of-war with that title. Having sung nearly 700 songs and composing a few of his own, his music journey spanning over 33 years has come a long way.
Currently, Singh is on a world tour, performing across India, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and more. He has been seen collaborating with a variety of artists on social media, including Dutch DJ and record producer Martin Garrix, especially known for his singles like “In the Name of Love”, and award-winning English songwriter and singer, Ed Sheeran.
A Skyline sophomore talks about her love for “Tum Hi Ho,” Singh’s debut song from the movie “Aashiqui 2.” She describes how heartfelt his singing is, bringing listeners into the mood of the song.
