Shooting Stars is a school event between Skyline High School and Eastlake High School every year. This year it was held on April 23 at Eastlake High School. Each school chooses students from their LRC II classrooms to compete against each other in a roaring game of basketball.
This year, some players on the team were Gabi F., Noah S., and Anish G. They were all passionate about the event, practicing together many times per week in addition to their individual training. Gabi, a Skyline senior, said she “practiced outside of school with the Issaquah Eagles every week” for the Shooting Stars Basketball game. Noah, a junior, on the other hand, has prepared for the Shooting Stars game by playing basketball with friends after school. Sophomore Anish said he “plays ball with his dad every weekend,” practicing all types of basketball skills.

The Shooting Stars game began with a fierce tip-off between Skyline and Eastlake, with Gabi, wearing the number 1 jersey, winning the tip-off. Gabi dribbled toward the net and scored a layup, giving Skyline the lead. Cheers roared from both Skyline and Eastlake fans and friends after the point. After a player from Eastlake passed the ball back into play, they dashed across the court to tie the game with a shot inside the paint. Following Eastlake’s score, Gabi passed the ball to Noah. Noah ran down the court and put Skyline back in the lead by two points. The final score was incredibly close: 59 for Skyline and 60 for Eastlake.
In basketball, while there are objective winners, the cheers during the Shooting Stars game celebrated everyone. The energy was amazing.
