The Skyline nurses have always been there for students, working tirelessly to keep Skyline healthy. From the occasional bandage to extensive care for medical conditions, the nurses are a critical part of the Skyline community.
Skyline’s district nurse, Mrs. Linda Okamoto, is not only efficient but also compassionate. Her office can be found connected to the front office on the 2000s floor, where she and the health room specialist are always available to help students in need.
In Skyline, the duty of the nurse goes beyond scrapes and scratches. When asked about her other duties, Mrs. Okamoto explains, “I do healthcare plans for students with health conditions and emergency care plans for conditions such as allergies, seizures, and diabetes.” She is also able to give out medication and care for emergencies.
According to Mrs. Okamoto, the most common reasons Skyline students come to the Nurse’s Office is for allergies, stomach aches and colds. Although it is tempting to take a break in the comfortable atmosphere under the care of the nurses, using the office to skip class is advised against, as it is detrimental to students’ learning.
Some advice Mrs. Okamoto had to improve Skyline’s health is to eat healthily, exercise, and get plenty of sleep. But the most important part, Mrs. Okamoto says, “is to do fun things with friends and be happy.” She acknowledges the stress and pressures of studying and advises taking plenty of breaks and regularly enjoying time with friends and family.
With the advice of the school’s amazing school nurse, let’s make next year’s Skyline healthier.
