Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or another holiday this time of year, several fun experiences and displays bring cheer to our community.
“The Nutcracker” is a Pacific Northwest favorite. Performed by the Pacific Northwest Ballet at McCaw Hall annually throughout December, the production follows a young girl named Clara through her fantastical dream on Christmas Eve. The Nutcracker, which runs for approximately two hours altogether, is one of the most popular ballets in history. Don’t miss your chance to watch the dancers’ hard work that makes this a stunning production year after year.
The next experience is the WildLanterns at Woodland Park Zoo, made possible by Western Washington Toyota Dealers and filled with ginormous glowing displays that will take your breath away. Walking through these magical gardens is sure to bring wonder and joy to all who visit. The even runs until January 18, so try and make some time in your holiday schedule to witness the miraculous displays.
Lastly, don’t forget the Seattle Christmas Market, where you can shop for a variety of gifts, buy delicious foods and drinks, and enjoy family-friendly holiday entertainment. The market is near the Seattle Space Needle, where visitors can view one of the largest firework displays in North America as well as a show of hundreds of drones to celebrate the New Years.

“My favorite part of the holidays is when you are in the car, the air is cold and frosty, and suddenly the radio starts playing Christmas hits! I think it’s so nostalgic,” said Vedha N., a freshman at Skyline. “I also love Snowflake Lane and driving through neighborhoods to see the unique Christmas lights people put up!”

Pari S., also a Skyline freshman, said, “I really enjoyed going to see the lights in Bellevue Botanical Garden.”
