Slam Ball, a sport broadcast on ESPN, is a crossover between football and basketball. It takes place on a court with similar rules to basketball, but body contact is allowed, and both ends of the court have four trampolines that are responsible for massive jumps and dunks.
Each quarter is just five minutes long, so the games are relatively short, but the force and hustle shown by the players makes it worth it. The four trampolines built into the court at the ends create sudden jumps and dribbles, heightening excitement. There are eight teams in the SlamBall League, MOB currently being the only undefeated team. The most exciting part of the game comes in a face-off, when after being fouled, a player goes one-on-one against another to score, typically resulting in both of them jumping insanely high for a dunk. The traditional game’s goal is to get the highest score, but SlamBall also holds a dunk contest where players compete to perform the coolest tricks, looking even better with trampolines springing them up in the air. The sport has only seven players per team, meaning you can get to know the players with minimal effort.
There are many reasons to check out a sport, but SlamBall is one that should be on your radar. Aside from Marshawn Lynch commenting for some of the games (yes Beast Mode Marshawn Lynch), it’s a fun new sport that’s been picking up steam for the past couple of years. This sport is a new take on two already popular sports, go check it out on ESPN!
