The Seattle Sounders snatched an eighty-eighth-minute winner on Decision Day to beat New York City FC away from home. The victory marked their fifteenth win of the season and secured fifth place in the Western Conference.
At Citi Field, Jordan Morris grabbed his long-awaited goal after experiencing a lack of form since summer, missing a penalty at home against Real Salt Lake the week before. Argentinian winger Nicolás Fernández’s shot deflected off Sounders right back Nouhou Tolo and past goalkeeper Stefan Frei for an equalizer. Shortly after, Danny Leyva whipped the ball from a corner, perfectly meeting the head of Sounders captain Jackson Ragen and sealing the Decision Day fixture.

The Seattle Sounders earned a tight win the previous week at home against Real Salt Lake. Morris’ cutback in the fourth minute deflected off de la Vega’s shin and met sweetly with Rothrock, grabbing an early goal. The Sounders were given a scare late on as Salt Lake’s William Agada headed it home from a set piece, but the goal was chalked off for offsides.

The club followed through on their promise for silverware as they completed their North American trophy cabinet; they won all competitions available to the Rave Green as they finished off Inter Miami in the Leagues Cup final.
Lumen Field has also been proven as a formidable fortress to visitors, as Sounders have only managed one loss and thirty-six points at their home turf: the most points won at home in the entire Western Conference and joint second in the country. The advantage has grown increasingly more prevalent since previous seasons.
The Sounders will play Minnesota Loons in a best of three games after the latter lost 2-1 away to LA Galaxy on Decision Day.
Sounders lost to Loons on October 27. Watch for game two tonight, November 3, back in Seattle. This reporter will be back on the field catching all the action.
