On February 8, the Seattle Seahawks won the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots 29-13 at Levi’s Stadium in San Francisco. The win marks the first Lombardi trophy for the Seahawks in 12 years.
“To us, it means being the best. As fans, we are on top of the world, especially with all of the other stuff happening with Seattle sport,” said Skyline sophomore Andrew R.
The Patriots kicked off in the first quarter, and Seattle gained possession. The rush from Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III and catches by AJ Barner and Cooper Kupp got Seattle into field goal range. The 33-yard kick was converted by Jason Myers.
New England quarterback Drake Maye was sacked for the first time by linebacker Derick Hall six minutes into the game, forcing a punt. Four consecutive alternating punts followed, heading into the second quarter.
The 29-yard rush by Walker put the Seahawks in field goal range again, scored by Seattle kicker Myers. On third down and with 16 seconds left in the half, Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold threw a long pass to wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, but was incomplete due to the block of New England cornerback Christian Gonzales, forcing another field goal, converted by Myers. The half ended 9-0, Seahawks.

In the third quarter, Walker’s 28-yard rush followed by an incomplete pass to Kupp forced another field goal, scored by Myers. Smith-Njigba was forced off with a concussion doubt, but came back onto the field minutes later. Hall forced a fumble on Maye late on in the quarter, which led to Darnold throwing a 29-yard touchdown for Kupp, marking the first six points of the game.
With 12 minutes left of the game, Maye threw a touchdown to New England receiver Mack Hollins, finally putting themselves on the scoreboard, making the game 19-7. Four minutes later, with Maye under pressure from the Seahawks defensive line, he threw a pass down the middle of the field towards the direction of Patriots wide receiver Kyle Williams, which was intercepted by Seahawks safety Julian Love, who minutes early almost made an interception.

Two more drives by Walker for Seattle put them in kicking range again, which allowed Myers to convert his fifth field goal of the day. On the next set of plays, Maye’s pass was blocked by Seahawks cornerback Devon Witherspoon from close range and caught by linebacker Uchenna Nwosu. He ran the 45 yards, recording his first career touchdown. Myers scored the one point conversion, bringing his total to 17 points for the day, setting a record for the most points scored by a kicker in Super Bowl history.
With two minutes left in the game, Maye threw the ball wide to Rhamondre Stevenson, scoring the last points of the game. Their preceding failed two point attempt ended the game 29-13, with the Seattle Seahawks as the champion.

“It means a lot to us because it’s a sense of unity. It’s our team that won. And [it’s] also a point of pride and celebration,” said sophomore Abbas H.
