The rain is pouring down on your skin as the wind glides coldly over your entire body. You’re shivering. That’s winter sport swimming at Skyline. Spartan swimmers have some tricks to stay healthy and on top of schoolwork while practicing in this weather.
Ishan D., a freshman, and Rishi S., a sophomore, were both new to the swim team this year. Ishan and Rishi say that they love how “close the team is together” at pasta feeds, a tradition where swimmers bring pasta to eat the day before a meet and practice.
Each of them has different ways of staying healthy and keeping up with their classwork. Ishan said he spends his free after practice time doing homework while Rishi both wakes up early in the morning and finishes homework after practice. To stay healthy, Rishi enjoys a light snack before swimming. Ishan suggested drying off quickly after getting out of the pool.

Henry D., a Junior on the team, is taking IB Business, English, and Environmental Science. It’s been a busy year for him, but he said he didn’t have a daily routine that he strictly follows. Instead, Henry manages school well by “being productive with time in class and after swim,” which has been working well for him.
Just recently, he was elected as next year’s captain for Skyline’s Swim and Dive (or Swive) team. He hopes to bring a “competitive and fun environment at each practice and meet” and maybe even get a new diver to join the team as there were no newbies this year.

Finally, Andrew M. is one of the senior captains this year. He takes IB Physics, English, Social Studies, and Business. Andrew said that he personally likes to “plan out work by using a calendar” and “get work done in school, so you don’t have to spend a lot more time outside of school.”
Andrew’s favorite part about Skyline Swive is its community, because “the upper and underclass men get to know each other and form a lasting connection through swim.”
With his four years of experience on the team, he suggested that “it’s important to find balance between swimming and staying healthy by taking rest days to get better”.

The writer of this article is a captain this year as well. He quit swimming for some time but decided to swim again for the school team. It was a great decision. If you want to try competitive swimming or diving for the first time, Skyline Swive is an amazing place to start.
