Odell Beckham Signs to the Rams

Odell Beckham Signs to the Rams

Beckham, the Superstar Wide Receiver has been on a downward slump with injuries and production being less than ever compared to the previous years. This signing has had a fresh start for the receiver changing the Rams from contenders to a Superteam and the eventual Super Bowl Champion.

“It’s an opportunity for us as a team, it’s an opportunity for him to come in here and prove himself to us. What our room is about in the receiver room is pretty special,” Stafford said, the Quarterback for the Rams.

Odell’s time with the Cleveland Browns came to an end with disheart against the organization, some question if the receiver was even necessary on the run-heavy team. With Odell already having more touchdowns this year alone than previously in the last two years with Cleveland.

The running scheme and passing for the Browns offense did not use Odell’s skill set well being a deep target and red zone player. Adjusting to the Los Angeles offense has not been easy but the success shows on the field. With winning the Super Bowl and having a great postseason with 2 touchdowns coming in turning points in the game.

This begs the question if Beckham was even the problem in Cleveland. The stats show on paper that the receiver had declined. The drift between the franchise and the player was unpleasant but was a mutual choice for both parties’ futures.

Before even signing with the Rams, Von Miller, Super Bowl MVP, and the champion was traded to the Rams for a second and third-round pick in 2022. The move was brought with lots of questions, but it was similar to what the team did earlier in acquiring their new quarterback, Matthew Stafford who was traded for two first-round picks in 2022 and 2023. This costing 23 million dollars for the QB alone.

Was the team’s future worth breaking the barrier for cap space at one chance at the trophy. Is having established stars and veterans worth sacrificing potential. The super team era has begun in many sports but has now reached the NFL level. The future of the NFL seems very star-based with superteams now being in control of the league.

Being a potential contender for the Super Bowl and annual playoff team, the Rams could never get over the hill. Being close in 2019 with a loss to the New England Patriots. Only needing a few key positions, with the window for opportunity closing fast.

The truth is, that it definitely works in the NFL. The Super Bowl Champions in 2020, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers reached the top with a whole new cast on their roster including the greatest quarterback to ever play, Tom Brady. Collecting free agents and key veterans has brought success.

This method of using money and free agents definitely has worked this year, with the Los Angeles Rams winning the trophy over the Bengals, a complete opposite team in their own right having the stars through the NFL draft.

“For years, Los Angeles has had the most aggressive team-building strategy in the league. Despite some close calls on Sunday, that plan delivered a Lombardi Trophy in Super Bowl LVI,” said Jones. This tenure plan has settled in success, creating one of the most unique and talented groups ever to be assembled on an NFL field.

The future NFL seems very star-based with most of the winning franchises with the highest-paid players in the biggest cities. This may contribute to the league switching to a very superteam-looking outcome.
